Julia Cumes is a Cape Cod-based photographer and visual storyteller whose work explores people, place and the natural world. Originally from South Africa, she has photographed around the world for magazines, newspapers, humanitarian and wildlife organizations, with storytelling and human connection at the heart of much of her work.
Cape Cod, where she has lived and photographed for many years, is an ongoing source of inspiration. Her work here ranges from landscapes shaped by the Cape’s ever-changing light, water, weather and seasons to intimate stories about the people and communities who call it home. Her most recent project, Invisible Threads: Portraits and Stories of Our Global Neighbors, explores migration, identity and belonging through portraits and stories of Cape Cod’s global community and was published as a book by Daylight Books in 2026. Robert Manz Studio has been publishing fine art calendars of towns on Cape Cod for many years. Originally they were all Robert’s work; then they extended down the coast to include some other great photographers of Cape Cod, New England and Maine in the growing collection.
